Goodbye Miep

One of my great inspirations and colleague Miep Jukkema has passed away on July 7th, 2012. On May 17, 2012, she was committed to hospital. She had been found in her car along the highway and had suffered a CVA (Cerebral Vascular Accident — also known as a ‘stroke’). During her fifth week in hospital she developed pneumonia and had a second brain stem stroke, with no hope of recovery left. She finally died at 13.40 hrs on July 7th, 2012, peacefully and serene.

Her career spanned over a quarter of a century and she has been an inspiration to a whole generation of photographers, many of whom learned the trade at her side.

She will be remembered for her sparkling vision and personality. And the love she unselfishly spread around…
